Hanukkah

Dive into the history of Hanukkah and how families in East London marked it. We'll be bringing some of the traditions, foods, objects, music and stories to life with craft workshops, an intimate Sephardi Jewish Hanukkah supper club and a Family Celebration Day in December.

Highlights

An important cultural celebration for the Jewish communities in and around our East London home, the Museum celebrates Hanukkah by bringing some of the foods, objects, music, stories to life as part of Winter Festival.

Our Parlour in 1745 will be restyled by our curators, in partnership with our Faith and Culture Forum, to show a local Sephardi Jewish family sitting down to Hanukkah dinner in that period of time. Expect the sounds, smells, and sights that will bring this story to life. Across the week we invite everyone to join a candle-making workshop and an intimate Sephardi Jewish Hanukkah supper club.

On Sunday 18 December 2022, visitors are invited to join the Museum’s Family Celebration Day to learn about the history of the celebration, and how families in East London marked it. Take part in donut making and decorating alongside craft activities, tours, musical performances, Hanukkah object displays, and more. Click below to book.
